A curiosity..

A curiosity about Bari unknown to many concerns one of the historic theaters of the city.. the Teatro Margherita!!
With its pink color in pure Liberty style, it stands on a stretch of the seafront close to the old city and the Murat district.
Its main feature?
It is built entirely on stilts and being completely surrounded by the sea it is connected to the mainland via a pier.
In fact, it is still today the only theater in Europe built on stilts.
In 1912 the pile-dwelling technique was used because due to an agreement made between the Municipality of Bari and a family of the city
(the Petruzzellis, owners of the most famous city theater) it was not possible to build other theaters on municipal land,
but it could be done on the sea. Being supported by pillars driven directly into the seabed, this theater was therefore regular. 🙂
After a major renovation, the theater is now home to the museum of contemporary arts and the sailing club on the ground floor.
If you stay in the "La mansarda" apartment, you can admire it in all its beauty by looking out the window and looking towards the sea.
